(numbers refer to findagrave.com memorial links)
1945 Thurman Devine Moyers (1889 – 1970) (122410975) Brother Moyer was born in Gain, Tennessee and moved to California in 1913. He petitioned Las Palmas Lodge in February of 1936 and was raised in October of that year. Nine years later he would become our forty-first Master. Even though we were in the middle of World War II in 1945, Las Palmas Lodge was very busy. There were many days in which 5 third degrees were conferred. During his year as Master, Brother Moyers raised 72 men to the sublime degree of Master Mason and had 9 Master Masons affiliate with Las Palmas Lodge. This is a record that very few Masters of any Lodge have ever had and may never be equaled by any Master of any Lodge in the future.
Brother “Dee” owned
and operated Moyer Stage Lines in Fresno which had service throughout the
Valley. At the time of his
retirement in he was proud to say that his company never had a vehicle involved
in a fatal accident.
Originally he
purchased 5 acres of land on the south side of Clinton Ave. between Angus and
Orchard to build a terminal for his stage lines.
Instead of building a terminal, he offered the 5 acres to all of the
Lodges in Fresno for the purpose of constructing one multi-lodge temple.
The Lodges were given 1 year to “break ground” and when this did not
happen, he gave the east 2 ½ acres to Las Palmas Lodge with the same 1 year
requirement. Ground was broken
within the year and this is the location of our Temple.
Brother Moyer was coroneted a 33º Scottish Rite mason in 1961. In the spring of 1979 a Scottish Rite class was named for him. He and his wife were very active in Eastern Starr where they held state wide offices.

Lodge and was our officer’s coach for many years.
He was a real stickler for our ritual being said correctly.
He was Master of the Central California Research Lodge in 1974. Brother Buckalew was also very enthusiastic with High Twelve; having served as the Fresno Club President, State High Twelve Clubs President and National President. Brother Harry could always be counted on for being at Lodge as he never missed a meeting and was also active in Eastern Star.
